Most marketing playbooks are written in markets where Snapchat is a niche teenage app. The Gulf is different. Here, Snapchat is part of daily life for a lot of people, including adults, and many local brands use it as seriously as Instagram. If your media plan was copied from a UK or US template, Snapchat is probably the gap.

The reach

DataReportal's Digital 2026 UAE report says Snap's advertising resources indicated around 5.13 million Snapchat users in the UAE in late 2025, equivalent to 44.9 percent of the total population. Snapchat is only available to people aged 13 and above, so the share among eligible ages is higher.

That's a smaller number than Meta or TikTok report in the UAE, but reach isn't the whole story. The question is whether your particular customers are there, and whether competitors have left the space quieter than the bigger platforms.

Who it suits

Snapchat works best for consumer businesses where the purchase is quick, visual or social. It is less suited to considered B2B purchases.

  • Consumer brands targeting younger audiences.
  • Restaurants, cafes, retail, beauty and entertainment.
  • Events and launches that benefit from short, immediate content.
  • Brands targeting nationals as well as expats, where Snapchat use is common.

For restaurants in particular, Snapchat sits naturally next to the rest of a local plan. My restaurant marketing notes cover how it fits with Google Maps and Instagram.

Creative that fits Snapchat

Snapchat content is fast, casual and personal. Ads that look like someone filmed them on their phone fit better than studio work. Keep the key message in the first second, use bold on-screen text, and make the next step obvious, because people move through Snapchat quickly. Arabic creative is worth testing if you're targeting Emirati and Gulf audiences; see bilingual content for how I handle that.

How to test it

  1. Install the Snap Pixel and set up your key conversion events. Add Snap's Conversions API if your site platform supports it.
  2. Reuse your best vertical video from TikTok or Reels, adapted for Snapchat's style.
  3. Run a small test for a few weeks alongside your existing channels.
  4. Compare cost per conversion in your own analytics, not just platform metrics.

Reading the results

Snapchat often drives people to search or visit later rather than buy on the spot, so last-click numbers can understate it. Tag your Snapchat links with UTM parameters, watch GA4 for Snapchat traffic, and check whether direct and branded traffic moves while the test runs. If cost per customer is close to your other channels, it's worth keeping. If it's far worse after a fair test, stop and move the budget.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Uploading TikTok videos with the TikTok watermark still on.
  • Using horizontal or square video that leaves empty space on screen.
  • Testing for a few days and calling it. Small budgets need time to produce enough results to judge.
  • Assuming it won't work because it doesn't feature in global marketing advice.

Where Snapchat fits in a media plan

I rarely recommend Snapchat as a business's only paid channel. It works best as a second or third platform, added once Meta or Google is running properly and you have creative that already performs. Because Snapchat and TikTok both run on vertical video, one shoot can supply both, which keeps production costs down. For launches and seasonal pushes such as Ramadan or Dubai Shopping Festival, it can add reach among younger local audiences that other platforms miss.

Audience first

Check whether your customers actually use Snapchat before investing. Ask them, look at your site analytics' referral sources, and run a small test.

Questions people ask

Yes. Snap's ad tools showed about 5.13 million users in the UAE in late 2025, around 45 percent of the population, per DataReportal.
Generally no. LinkedIn and search are better for B2B lead generation.
Often, with small edits for Snapchat's format and without TikTok watermarks.
Snap sets platform minimums that can change, so check Ads Manager when you set up. More important is funding a test long enough to produce meaningful results.
Whichever your customers use more. For many younger Gulf audiences that's Snapchat; for broad expat consumer audiences it's often TikTok or Instagram. A small test on each answers it.
