The audience

DataReportal's Digital 2026 UAE report says Meta's ad tools indicated about 8.05 million Instagram users in the UAE in late 2025, equivalent to roughly 70 percent of the population. For consumer businesses, it's hard to ignore. It is also where many customers check you out after hearing your name somewhere else, so even if Instagram isn't your main sales channel, your profile is doing a job.

Start with a profile that converts

Before you think about content, fix the profile. Most visitors decide in a few seconds whether you're what they need, and the profile is what they see. This is what I check first when I audit an account.

  • Name field includes what you do, since it's searchable on Instagram: "Layla | Lash Studio Dubai".
  • Bio says what you offer, where and how to book, in two lines. Mention the area, such as JLT or Al Barsha, if location matters.
  • Contact buttons set up: WhatsApp, call, directions, booking.
  • Link goes to a page built for Instagram visitors, not a cluttered homepage.
  • Highlights answer common questions: prices, location, results, reviews, FAQs.

Content that works

Each format has a different job. A healthy account uses them together rather than betting everything on one.

Content pillars

I usually set three or four pillars so planning stays easy: proof (work, results, reviews), education (answers to customer questions), people (the team and the founder) and offers. Rotate through them across the week. If you serve Arabic-speaking customers, plan how you'll handle language using my notes on bilingual Arabic and English content.

A rhythm you can sustain

Three to four quality posts a week plus regular Stories beats seven rushed posts. Batch-create content once a week so posting never depends on a good day. If you need a system, see short-form video on a small budget.

DMs, WhatsApp and response time

In Dubai, a lot of Instagram enquiries move to WhatsApp quickly. That's fine, but speed matters on both. Set up saved replies for prices, location and availability, and agree who answers outside office hours. If you run ads that open a chat, my guide to click-to-WhatsApp ads explains how to keep those conversations from going cold.

Boosting posts versus running ads

The Boost button is tempting because it's quick, but it gives you less control over objectives, audiences and placements than Meta Ads Manager. I use boosts only to push an already popular post to more people near the shop. For anything where you want enquiries or sales, build a proper campaign. My Meta ads guide for the UAE walks through the setup, and conversion tracking with GA4 and Meta shows how to tell which posts and ads bring customers.

Measure what matters

Follower count is the easiest number to watch and the least useful. Each month, I look at these instead:

  • Profile visits and link or button taps.
  • DMs and WhatsApp enquiries that start from Instagram.
  • Saves and shares, which signal genuinely useful content.
  • Bookings or sales you can trace back, even roughly, by asking new customers how they found you.

Side by side

Common mistakes and fixes

Mistake

  • Posting only offers
  • A bio that says "Welcome to our page"
  • Ignoring DMs for a day or more
  • Chasing trends unrelated to the business

Fix

  • Mix proof, education and people with offers
  • Say what you do, where, and how to book
  • Saved replies and a named person responsible
  • Answer real customer questions on video

Working with creators

If you pay creators or give them free products to promote you, check the UAE advertiser permit rules. See influencer marketing in the UAE. If you'd rather hand the account over, see my social media marketing service in Dubai.
