Why consistency matters

Google builds its picture of your business from many sources: your profile, your website, directories, maps apps and mentions on other sites. If one says "Office 1204, Bay Square" and another says "Business Bay, Dubai" with a different phone number, that's two conflicting signals. Customers who call the old number simply leave.

The customer side matters more than the SEO side. Someone who finds a listing with an old number doesn't try a second source. They call the next business. That's lost work you'll never see in a report.

Decide your official format first

UAE addresses can be written many ways: building name first or street first, with or without the community, with an office number or a floor. None is wrong, but you need one version that you use everywhere. Write it down and share it with whoever updates your listings.

One business, one format

FieldPick one and stick to itCommon inconsistency
NameThe name on your trade licence and signageAdding LLC in some places, a tagline in others
AddressUnit, building, street, area, DubaiArea only on some listings, old office on others
PhoneOne main number in +971 formatPersonal mobiles and old landlines
WebsiteOne URL, same version (https, with or without www)Old domains or tracking links

Small differences like "St" versus "Street" are not the problem. Different numbers, different offices and different names are.

Where your details should match

Start with the places customers actually look, not with a long list of directories. For most UAE businesses, the first five below cover the majority of searches.

  • Google Business Profile. The setup is in optimising a Google Business Profile in Dubai.
  • Your website footer and contact page.
  • Apple Maps, through Apple Business Connect, and Bing Places.
  • Social profiles: Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok.
  • Industry directories and marketplaces relevant to you, such as delivery apps for restaurants or property portals for agents.
  • Chamber, association and free zone directories you belong to.

Your Business Profile itself lets you add links to your social profiles, one per platform, which is a simple way to tie your presence together. Make sure the details on each of those profiles match too.

How to clean up

Local SEO · Dubai

A clean-up process

Set the standard

Decide on one official format for your name, address and phone, and write it down.

Find what exists

Search your business name, old phone numbers and old addresses to find existing listings.

Fix the big ones

Update the ones you control, starting with the most visible: Google, your site, Apple Maps.

Chase the rest

Request corrections or removals for duplicates on directories you don't control.

Recheck

Look again every few months, especially after moving or changing numbers.

Searching old phone numbers is the step people skip, and it's the one that finds the most problems. Old numbers live on in forum posts, supplier pages and directories that scraped your details years ago.

Directories: quality over quantity

There's an old habit of submitting a business to hundreds of directories. Most of those sites get no visitors, and some are created only to sell listings. I'd rather see a business on ten listings that are accurate and that real customers use than on two hundred that nobody reads. Industry bodies, your free zone or chamber directory and the main marketplaces in your sector are worth more than generic lists.

When you move or rebrand

Moves and rebrands are when listings fall apart. In Google Business Profile, a new address after verification means you'll need to verify again, and a name change can trigger it too. Plan for that rather than discovering it on moving day.

  1. Update Google, your website and Apple Maps on the same day.
  2. Expect re-verification on Google and have signage up at the new premises before you start.
  3. Update social profiles and the directories you control within the week.
  4. Keep the old phone number forwarding for a while if you can.

Moving office?

Update your Google profile, website and Apple Maps on the same day, then work through the rest. It's the most common cause of messy listings in Dubai. Listings are one part of the local SEO checklist, and I check them as part of my local SEO work in Dubai.
