What goes wrong

The common mistake is a template: "Best plumbing in [Area]" repeated for 50 areas, with the same text and only the name swapped. Google's spam policies describe scaled content abuse as many pages generated mainly to manipulate rankings, with little value to users. Its doorway examples include "multiple domain names or pages targeted at specific regions or cities that funnel users to one page". These pages rarely rank for long, and they can drag down the rest of the site.

The pattern has become easier to produce with AI tools, which is why Google's policy says it applies regardless of how the content is made. Fifty area pages written by a tool in an afternoon are still fifty near-identical pages.

First, decide which kind of business you are

The right setup depends on whether customers come to you or you go to them. Mixing the two models is where most multi-location problems start.

Which setup fits

Your situationBusiness ProfilesWebsite pages
Several staffed branches customers visitOne per branchOne page per branch with its own details
One base, you travel to customersOne, with service areas setService pages, with area pages only where you have something specific
One branch plus mobile serviceOne for the branch, with service areas if allowedBranch page plus service pages
Online only, no customer visitsUsually not eligibleService and content pages, no location pages

If you have real branches

  • Create one Google Business Profile per branch that serves customers in person.
  • Create one page per branch with information that's genuinely unique: address, map, hours, team, photos, parking, services offered there.
  • Link each profile to its own branch page, not the homepage.
  • Add LocalBusiness schema to each branch page with that branch's details. See the LocalBusiness schema guide.

Branch pages are easy to make useful, because each branch really is different. A Dubai Marina branch and a Sharjah branch have different parking, different landmarks, different hours on Fridays and often different teams. Write those things down. They're what customers need.

If you travel to customers

  • Use one Business Profile with service areas set, and the address removed if customers don't visit you.
  • Google allows up to 20 service areas, defined by city or area, and suggests staying within about two hours' drive of your base.
  • Build pages around services first, with genuine local detail where it exists: response times, coverage, examples of work in that emirate.
  • Only create an area page when you have something specific to say about serving that area.

Side by side

Location pages

Doorway page

  • Same text, area name swapped
  • Exists only to rank
  • No local detail
  • Dozens of near-identical pages

Useful location page

  • Unique details for that place
  • Answers questions people there have
  • Real photos, team, directions
  • A handful of pages with substance

What genuinely local detail looks like

If you're struggling to write more than two sentences that are specific to an area, that's a sign the page shouldn't exist. Things that do make an area page useful:

  • How you actually serve that area: response times, which days you cover it, any call-out differences.
  • Practical differences between emirates that affect your service, confirmed with the relevant authority where rules are involved.
  • Real examples of work done there, with photos, described without naming clients who haven't agreed to it.
  • Questions customers in that area ask you, answered properly.

Cleaning up an existing set of area pages

Local SEO · Dubai

Auditing doorway-style pages

List them

Export every location page and its traffic and enquiries from Search Console and analytics.

Sort

Keep pages that bring visits and have real detail. Mark the rest.

Merge or improve

Fold thin pages into a single service-area page, or rewrite the few that deserve to stay.

Redirect

Redirect removed pages to the closest useful page so links are not lost.

Bilingual sites

If you serve both Arabic and English speakers, separate language versions are a better investment than separate area pages. See Arabic SEO and bilingual websites. If you'd like help planning the structure before you build, that's part of how I approach website design in Dubai.

A useful test

Read two of your location pages side by side. If a customer couldn't tell which area each one is about without looking at the heading, Google probably can't either.

Questions people ask

Not if each page has genuinely useful, specific information. It's a problem when the pages are near-identical and exist only to rank.
A service-area business can set up to 20 service areas on one profile, and Google suggests staying within about two hours' drive. Businesses with several staffed locations need one profile per location.
Pages created to rank for specific searches that funnel visitors to the same place without offering unique value. Google treats them as spam.
Usually merge or improve them, and redirect anything you remove to the closest useful page. Keep pages that bring genuine enquiries.
No. One site with clear branch or service pages is easier to maintain, and multiple near-duplicate sites are one of Google's examples of doorway abuse.
